Free Crochet Toy Pattern – Elli the Elephant Amigurumi

Cute little elephant friend! The toy is made from the tail towards the trunk. Ears and feet are made separately and sewed on. Toy is worked in spiral rounds without joining.

Skills Required:

• Basic stitches (single crochet, chains)
• Increases, decreases
• Crocheting in the round
• Basic sewing

Yarn: Worsted weight yarn.

Suggested yarn: Lily Sugar’n Cream (100% cotton; 120 yds [109 m]/2.5 oz [70.9 g])

Hook: G/6 (4.25 mm). Or hook necessary to obtain gauge.

Other materials: Fiberfill, scraps of black yarn or safety eyes.

Gauge: 15 sts and 16 rows = 4″. Not crucial for this project.

Body:

Ch 5.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2^nd ch from hook – 6 sts. Remaining chs will form tail.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around – 12 sts.

Rnd 3: [Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] around – 18 sts.

Rnd 4: [Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] around – 24 sts.

Rnd 5: [Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st] around – 30 sts.

Rnd 6-10: Sc in each st around.

Rnd 11: [Sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog] around – 24 sts.

Rnd 12: [Sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog] around – 18 sts.

Rnd 13: [Sc in next st, sc2tog] around – 12 sts.

Rnd 14: [Sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog] around – 10 sts.

Rnd 15-19: Sc in each st around.

Fasten off.

Ears (make 2):

Rnd 1: Make adjustable ring, 5 sc into the ring, pull tail to tighten the ring – 5 sts.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around – 10 sts.

Rnd 3: [Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] around – 15 sts.

Rnd 4-5: Sc in each st around.

Fasten off, leaving 10″ tail for sewing.

Feet (make 4):

Rnd 1: Make adjustable ring, 5 sc into the ring, pull tail to tighten the ring – 5 sts.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around – 10 sts.

Rnd 3-4: Sc in each st around.

Fasten off, leaving 10″ tail for sewing.

Assembly:

Attach safety eyes. Stuff body with fiberfill through the trunk opening. Using yarn needle and remaining yarn tail, flatten the trunk and stitch between rnds 13 and 14. Sew ears in place – between rows 9 and 10. Stuff feet with fiberfill and sew into place. If not using safety eyes, with black yarn embroider eyes.
