Crochet Two Strap Baby Booties – A Star is Born

Those crochet two strap baby booties will be a hit at any baby shower. They are very addictive and it’s hard to make only one pair! Depending on the color and buttons they could be great for a boy, girl or both. One skein of yarn makes two pairs!
Because of a star stitch this pattern is not recommended for a complete beginner. But an intermediate beginner or advanced crocheter will find it very interesting and fun to crochet.

Finished size(s): To fit an average 0-6 month old.
Finished Measurements: Approximately 4″/10 cm long.
Yarn: Sport weight yarn.
Sample Shown in: Debbie Bliss Ecobaby (100% organic cotton; 136 yds [125 m]/1.75 oz [50 g]): #14006, 1 skein.
Hook: US size D/3 (3.25 mm). Or hook necessary to obtain gauge.
Notions: Yarn needle, 4 buttons (1/2″ diameter).
Gauge: 22 sts and 23 rows = 4″ in single crochet.
Stitch Guide
Star Stitch (star st): Insert hook under ch 1 just made, insert hook into a side of hdc just made, yo and draw up loop, insert hook into a sp last st is made, yo and draw up loop, [insert hook in nest st, yo and draw up loop] twice, yo and draw through all loops on hook; ch 1.
Beg star st: yo, insert hook into a side of hdc just made, yo and draw up loop, insert hook into a sp last st is made, yo and draw up loop, [insert hook in nest st, yo and draw up loop] twice, yo and draw through all loops on hook; ch 1.
Star stitch decrease (star st dec): Insert hook under ch 1 just made, insert hook into a side of hdc just made, yo and draw up loop, insert hook into a sp last st is made, yo and draw up loop, [insert hook in nest st, yo and draw up loop] 3 times, yo and draw through all loops on hook; ch 1.
Do not ch 1 after last star st.
Pattern Instructions
Notes: Bootie is worked in continuous rounds, do not join unless otherwise specified. Place a stitch marker in last stitch of first round and move marker up as work progresses.
Ch 12.
Rnd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch to last ch, 3 sc in last ch; working in opposite side of the foundation ch, sc in each ch to last ch (1st skipped ch), 3 sc in next ch – 26 sts.
Rnd 2: Sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st, 3 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 5 sts, sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next 3 sts – 33 sts.
Rnd 3: Sc in next 11 sts, [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] 3 times, sc in next 11 sts, 2 sc in net st, sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st – 38 sts.
Rnd 4: Sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 6 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 6 sts, sc in next 5 sts, [2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts] twice, 2 sc in next st – 45 sts.
Rnd 5: Sc in next 13 sts, [2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts] 3 times, sc in next 8 sts, [2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts] twice, 2 sc in next st – 51 sts.
Rnd 6: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 7: Sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next st, 14 star sts, hdc in next st, sc in rem sts.
Rnd 8: Sc in next 6 sts, [sc in next ch-1, 2 sc in next ch-1]7 times, sc in rem sts.
Rnd 9: Sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next st, 7 star sts dec, hdc in next st, sc in next 6 sts, hdc in next 9 sts.
Rnd 10: Sc in next 6 sts, [2 sc in next ch-1, sc in next ch-1] 3 times, 2 sc in next ch-1, sc in rem sts.
Fasten off.
Strap:
Mark center 13 sts on top edge of heel end of bootie.
Row 1: Ch 10, with WS facing, sc in center 13 sts, ch 14, turn.
Row 2: Hdc in 5th ch from hook and next 9 chs, hdc in next 13 sc, hdc in next 10 chs. Ch 4 and sl st to the st on the bottom of the strap.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Finishing
Using picture as a guide, sew buttons on booties adjacent to first and last star stitch in Row 9. Cross straps and button.
