Free Crochet Baby Bow Headband Pattern with FOE
Crochet Baby Bow Headband
Anastasia Popova
I’ve created this cute crochet baby bow headband to match the Pretty in Pink dress. There are a lot of crochet patterns for a baby bow headband, but I have not seen one that uses fold over elastic (FOE). Babies heads grow so quickly that I prefer to use FOE for a baby headband instead of crocheting the headband.
This headband will go well with Charlotte Mary Janes, as bows are almost identical.
Skills Required:
- Basic stitches (chain, single and treble crochet, slip stitch)
- Basic sewing
Yarn: Light worsted weight yarn.
Sample Shown in: I Love This Cotton (100% cotton; 180 yds [165 m]/3.5 oz [100 g]): #258 pistache (MC), #80 antique gold (CC).
Hook: US size G/6 (4.25 mm).
Notions: Yarn needle, 0.5″ buttons, fold over elastic (FOE), sewing thread, and needle.
FOE can be purchased in many craft stores or diaper sewing supplies stores. I got mine at Tuesday Morning.
Pattern Instructions
Bow
With CC, make an adjustable ring, (ch 3, 3 tr into the ring, ch 2, sl st into the ring) twice, pull tail to tighten the ring. Fasten off CC.
Join MC in blo of 1st ch, (sc blo in next 3 ch, sc blo in next 3 tr, sc blo in next 2 ch) twice.
Fasten off, leaving 10″ tail. Wrap tail 7 times around the middle of the bow, secure with French knot on the back.
Finishing
Weave in ends. With sewing thread sew the button onto the center of the bow.
Headband
Cut FOE to specified measurments:
Newborn: 13.25″
3-6 months: 14.5″
6-12 month: 16″
Overlap about half an inch, with sewing needle and thread stitch together and sew bow on. This is what the back of mine looks like.
