I loooove strawberries! They are delicious! Baby girl wearing a cute strawberry beanie is even more delicious!! This is a free crochet pattern for a baby hat, strawberry beanie.

This strawberry hat is worked from the top down. The white “seeds” are added as you go, so you don’t have to embroider them afterwards. Leaves are made separately and would need to be sewn on.

Finished size(s): To fit an average 0-6 month old (6-12 month old, 1-3 year old, 3-5 year old).

Finished Measurements: 14.75 (15.75, 16.75, 18.25)” hat circumference.

Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in red, green and white.

Sample Shown in: Lily Sugar ’n Cream (100% cotton; 120 yds [110 m]/ 2.5 oz [70.9 g]): red (MC), white (CC1), hot green (CC2), 1 skein each.

Hook: US size H/8 (5.0 mm). Or hook necessary to obtain gauge.

Notions: Yarn needle.

Gauge: 12 sts and 7 rows = 4″ in double crochet.

Note on gauge: The hat is designed at a loose gauge to be cool and airy for the summer.

Notes:

To Create Seeds: With white yarn tie knots every 2-3 inches. While crocheting the beanie, starting with round 4 and continuing every even round, hold the white yarn along the top edge of the previous round and crochet over it.

Pattern Instructions

Hat

With MC make an adjustable ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 2 (counts as dc), 10 dc in center of the ring, sl st in top of ch-2. Pull tail to tighten the ring – 11 sts.

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, dc in sl st, sl st in top of ch-2 – 22 sts.

Rnd 3: Ch 2, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * 9 more times, dc in next st, dc in sl st, sl st in top of ch-2 – 33 sts.

Note: Hold a strand of CC1 with knots along the edge and crochet over it in the next rnd and every even rnd after.

Rnd 4: Ch 2, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * 9 more times, dc in next 2 sts, dc in sl st, sl st in top of ch-2 – 44 sts.

For 0-6 month size only: Rnd 5: Ch 2, dc in each st around, sl st in top of ch-2 – 44 sts.

For 6-12 month size only: Rnd 5: Ch 2, *dc in next 13 sts, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * 2 more times, dc in remaining sts, sl st in top of ch-2 – 47 sts.

For 1-3 year old size only: Rnd 5: Ch 2, *dc in next 6 sts, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * 5 more times, dc in next st, sl st in top of ch-2 – 50 sts.

For 3-5 year old size only: Rnd 5: Ch 2, *dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * 9 more times, dc in next 3 sts, dc in sl st, sl st in top of ch-2 – 55 sts.

All Sizes

Rnd 6: Ch 2, dc in each st around, sl st in top of ch-2 – 44 (47, 50, 55) sts.

Repeat rnd 6 – 3 (4, 5, 6) more times. Fasten off MC.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, reverse sc in each st around – 44 (47, 50, 55) sts.

Fasten off.

Stem and Leaves

With CC2, ch 11, sl st in 4^th ch from hook and in next 6 chs – Stem. In the last chain work 6 sc – Base of leaves.

Leaves: *Ch 7, sc in 3^rd ch from hook and in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 chs , sl st in next sc of the base; repeat from * 5 more times. Fasten off, leaving 10″ tail.
